Sex assigned at birth (SAAB) The sex (male, female, intersex) assigned at birth based on physical characteristics
Biological sex Chromosomes, hormones, gonads, and anatomy - exists on a spectrum, not a binary
Gender identity A person's internal, deeply held sense of their own gender
Gender expression How a person presents their gender externally
Sexual orientation Who a person is (or is not) attracted to
Gender dysphoria Distress from a mismatch between gender identity and assigned sex
Gender euphoria Positive feelings from alignment between gender identity and expression
AFAB / AMAB / AISAB Assigned Female / Male / Intersex At Birth
Cisnormativity The assumption that cisgender is the default identity
Heteronormativity The assumption that heterosexuality is the default orientation
Coming out Disclosing one's LGBTQ+ identity to oneself and/or others
Outing Disclosing someone else's identity without consent - harmful and sometimes dangerous
Dead name The birth name of a transgender person who has changed their name
Passing Being perceived as a particular gender by others
Misgender Referring to someone using the wrong gendered terms or pronouns
