How to wear and care for your packer

A packer is a soft shape you wear in your underwear to create a bulge. Some people wear one every day, some only for a night out. There is no correct amount of packing and no correct reason for it. This page is about the practical side: wearing it, comfort and care.

Packer or bulge packer?

  • Packer: an anatomical shape for a natural-looking bulge. Ours come in several sizes and two skin tones. In most cases a small is enough. Longer is not more convincing: a long packer moves more when you walk and shows more outline through thin trousers.
  • Bulge packer: a lightweight, soft insert that moves with your body, for a subtler bump. It fits in pouch underwear or a packing pouch.

What holds it

The packer is half the setup; what holds it is the other half.

  • Packing underwear with a pocket or pouch is the most comfortable option for daily wear. Our packing boxershorts are retrofitted with a pocket for a packer or a bulge, and come with bulges included.
  • Snug underwear or boxer briefs also work.
  • A packer harness with an O-ring or pouch keeps it in place.

If a packer feels like it is dragging, the problem is usually the underwear, not the packer. Look for a pocket that holds it close to your body.

Your first week

Wear it at home first. Sit down, walk around, take the stairs, put your hands in your pockets. Try it with the trousers you actually wear: thin, light or stretchy fabric shows more outline than denim. Everyone fidgets at first. If it does not feel right, that tells you something about the item, not about you.

Comfort and skin

Put it on over clean, dry skin. A well-fitting pocket stops it rubbing. If your skin gets red, sore or irritated, give it a break, and see a pharmacist or doctor if it does not clear. If you also bind, read our binder guide before wearing both all day.

Care

  • Packer: wash with mild soap and lukewarm water after wearing, rinse well and let it air dry before you wear it again. Do not use alcohol or household disinfectant.
  • Bulge packer: hand wash in lukewarm water with a small drop of mild soap.
  • Packing boxershorts: take the packer or bulge out, then machine wash at 30 °C max, preferably in a laundry bag. Air dry. Never in the dryer.
  • Storage: in its own box or a cotton bag, away from direct sunlight. Do not leave soft items pressed against each other in a drawer: softer materials can react and go tacky.

When to replace it

If a packer stays sticky, smells even after washing, or gets a split or a rough patch, it has reached the end of its life.
